    • About The Bali Process The Bali Process is a non-binding, international and multilateral forum – supporting global efforts to combat people smuggling and trafficking in persons and related transnational crime.
    • Coordination of the Bali Process The Bali Process is co-chaired by the Foreign Affairs Ministers of Australia and Indonesia.
    • Bali Process Membership The Bali Process brings together 45 Member States and 4 Member Organisations, and 18 Observer States and nine Observer Organisations
    • Trafficking In Persons Trafficking in Persons involves the use of deception, force or fraud to recruit and hold people against their will, with the aim of exploiting them for profit
    • People Smuggling People smuggling, also referred to as the smuggling of migrants, is the facilitated, illegal movement of people across borders
  • Conferences and Meetings
    • Ministerial Conferences Ministerial Conferences are held every two years to bring together ministers from across the Bali Process Member States
    • Bali Process Steering Group The Bali Process Steering Group is responsible for ensuring Bali Process objectives and priorities reflect regional needs
    • Senior Officials Meetings Senior Officials Meetings take place ahead of Ministerial Conferences, and involve the full membership of the Bali Process
    • Ad Hoc Group Meetings The Ad Hoc Group mechanism allows greater responsiveness in addressing situations on a case-by-case basis
    • Anniversary Events Anniversary events bring Member States together to reflect on learning and progress and to look ahead to future challenges.
    • Consultation Mechanism The Consultation Mechanism was established in 2016 to enable discussions on emergency irregular migration events.
  • Working Groups
    • Technical Experts Group on Returns and Reintegration Aims to support timely, safe and dignified returns of migrants and enhance the effectiveness of return as a strategy
    • Working Group on Trafficking in Persons Aims to promote more effective and coordinated law and justice responses to combat trafficking in persons
    • Taskforce on Planning and Preparedness Aims to improve the region's preparedness, and support collaboration, around irregular, forced migration events
    • Working Group on Disruption of Criminal Networks Involved in People Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons Focuses on action-oriented activities for enhancing coordination to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks

The first meeting of the Bali Process Ministerial Conference on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime was held in Bali in February 2002. In the 20 years since, the Bali Process has evolved and grown to match the changing scale and complexity of the issues within its mandate. Today, the Bali Process provides its 45 Member States, four Member Organisations, 18 Observer States and nine Observer Organisations with a crucial forum for policy dialogue, information sharing and capacity building, supported by four Working Groups, the Regional Support Office and the Government and Business Forum.
